John W. Smith is a tactical folding knife legend. His pieces are hard to come by, and when available they go fast. The reason: these custom pieces are a part of knife making history. Simple, purposeful, and flawlessly executed, a John W. Smith custom is a jewel in any collection. This 3.25” New York Special has a hand rubbed satin, CPM-S35VN blade, Ironwood scales and file worked back spacer and gold anodized, orange peel textured titanium liners, bolsters, and clip.
Brand new, direct from maker, John W. Smith.
Blade: The iconic Loveless New York Special false edge clip point comes with a beautiful hand rubbed satin finish and shallow hollow grinds for solid performance if you can bear putting it to use. Truly a thing of beauty, the blade rides smooth on phosphor bronze washers, opening via dual gold titanium stepped thumb studs. The initials JWS appear at the base of the tang.
Handle: Gold anodized orange peel textured titanium liners support matching bolsters and handsome, diamond textured Ironwood scales with matching file worked back spacer. The spacer rides proud to the liners for a more contoured feel, while the file work and jeweled engine turned liners deliver high-end custom detail. The liner lock delivers solid, secure lockup and is scalloped for traction. Custom gold titanium hardware completes the construction.
Carries via a right hand milled titanium pocket clip.
CPM-S35VN: Modified CPM-S30V designed for improved toughness (15-20%) and ease of machining and polishing. Well-balanced for daily use, S35VN has better edge retention and toughness compared to 440C or VG10, with equivalent corrosion resistance.
